GarconJon meets Morgan Daniel Goodall: Cape Town, South Africa: Model Off Duty

Morgan Daniel Goodall is the personification of Cape Town. He embraces all the urban cool of the city while taking advantage of the surrounding ocean as a skilled kite surfer. Represented by Boss Models, one of South Africa's leading agencies, I shot Morgan around Bo Kaap wearing a range of silk over-shirts from Cape Town designer Lukhanyo Mdingi.

Morgan Daniel Goodall, Model and kite surfer.

When you were a child what did you want to be when you grew up? I dreamed of being an AG pilot. Many of the men in my family were.

Where did you grow up and where do you live now? I grew up in the freestate on a farm, and now I live in Cape Town.

What do you love about Cape Town? I love the city because of it diversity in all most aspects of life. I value the diverse culture, landscape and general vibe.

How were you discovered as a model? I was on a surf trip in Zanzibar when two French guys from Paris took some photos of me in the water. They said it was for a fashion magazine and I believed them. They suggested I try Boss in Cape Town and at the time I was up for trying something new. I sent off a few photos and true as bob, a year later and I'm still at it.

What's been your best job so far? My best job was like my third job as a model. I was sent to Seychelles for ten days to sail around and take in the sun. Not to mention being paid. I'm pretty sure if I couldn't sail I wouldn't have gotten it. When I was there I was playing on a jet ski and ended up making a large wave which soaked the entire crew. The camera man and the wardrobe team on the boat were all covered. Luckily we laughed about it later on.

Where's the best place to wind surf in Cape Town? I'm into all sorts of ocean sports and kite surfing turned out to be my favorite. A great spot would be Big Bay. Good waves, good wind. It's a surfers paradise.

We shot you wearing some of Lukhanyo Mdingi's clothing, what do you like about his work? I like the simplicity. I think it's important to support any local produce here in South Africa, although it's not always easy.

Describe yourself in 5 words. Simple, salmon, earth boy, passionate.

What are you biggest influences in life? Inspiration, balance, simplicity.
What's on your horizon at the moment? Hmmm, to become a pilot!

Leave us with some words of wisdom. Go Big.
