The Man Clutch: New Oxford Street, London

Pairing a traditional double breasted suit with a soft black leather underarm bag outside the shows at London Fashion Week. The final addition of a Burberry style throw over the shoulders brings a touch of eccentricity.

Workwear on the Job: Somerset House, London

 photo garconjon-menswear-style-blog-IMG_2426a.jpg

During Fashion Week, it's often my photographer contemporaries whose style I admire most. It's the combination of subtle colours and hardy fabrics which attracts me to this getup.

 photo IMG_3685s.jpg

The Monobi menswear collection of technical outerwear items was shot in East London's concrete jungle. We wanted to create a clean urban aesthetic, removing the obvious draws to any particular city. Working with such detailed designs was fantastic as the sleek layering, hidden zips and creative fabrics photographed beautifully.
See Part 1 of the lookbook here and don't forget to enter the Instagram competition to win an exclusive Monobi bag @GarconJon, ending this weekend.

Bag and Bike: High Holborn, London

 photo cycle-style-garconjon-london-street-style-IMG_6669.jpg

It was the worn leather vintage bag on this chap's back that attracted me at first, but I soon noticed the details in the rest of his outfit. Luckily there was a set of traffic lights up ahead meaning he slowed giving me enough time to snap a shot.

Monobi: Lookbook and Giveaway Part 1

 photo monobi-garconjon-IMG_3229as.jpg

This month I was fortunate enough to shoot the lookbook for a new Italian brand, Monobi. Basing the outerwear collection on the meeting of two worlds, the designers behind the brand introduced their knowledge of classic Italian tailoring to contemporary technical advances.

The items were a dream to photograph and fascinating to try on. Their Blizzard. I Coat appears to be a classic overcoat but the wool-felted jersey gives clean, sharp lines and conceal a goose down filled lining which was steam sealed. My personal favourite is the Townshed jacket, a water resistant, lightweight blazer that feels like a cardigan. It uses a triple layer of fabric: sport coat cloth with seam free welding, making it water resistant but soft and lightweight.

The collection, made in the Italian town of Prato, is the fusion of historical craftsmanship and an architectural modernism reminiscent of Japanese precision in design.  The urban sensibility has a technical mindset. For example, the seemingly simple tote bag is actually constructed with three layers. The external shell is treated cotton with an inner waterproof membrane laser cut at the seams to reveal a flash of layered colour. The handles being the most traditional element, are in crafted in soft but durable leather for comfort and strength.

As the limited edition bag represents the new AW14 collection so perfectly, I had to get my hands on one as a giveaway for GarconJon readers. The tote, priced at €120 when it hits stores for autumn, will be given to one lucky winner this month. Check out my Instagram page @GarconJon see how to enter and find out more about Monobi at

Reece Crisp: Avenue de Montaigne, Paris

 photo garconjon-paris-street-style-beard-pitti-IMG_8050a.jpg

Wearing floral print as a man can be a tricky line to tred but menswear buyer for Harvey Nicholls Reece Crisp shows us how it's done with perfect ease. With the sun now shining on London, it's time to take note and break out some relaxed short sleeve shirts while pushing the boundaries with colour and print.

Bag and Brolly: Somerset House, London

At London Fashion Week in February of this year we have 4 seasons in 4 days. One umbrella is clearly now not enough to take on the British weather.

Maison: High Holborn, London

 photo garconjon-london-street-style-menswear-blog-IMG_1486s.jpg

When there's hysteria around shows at fashion week, I prefer to go off-route in search of style in the back streets. I found this model-off-duty taking a break in a cafe between shows. His reaction was fantastic when he noticed me shooting.

GarconJon Test...Liam Chennells

 photo liam-portrait-garconjon-jonathan-daniel-pryce-IMG_3100sb2sb.jpg

 photo liam-portrait-garconjon-jonathan-daniel-pryce-IMG_3119as.jpg

Name: Liam Chennells
Age: 24
Location: Blackheath, London
Horoscope: Scorpio
Life Motto: You are the sum of the average of the 5 people that you spend the most time with.

As a 24 year old, you've lived quite a few lives. Tell me about your career progression into rugby... I always played Rugby as a child and when I was 13 got a scholarship to attend rugby school, training every day from that age. This led me directly into the professional world which was a dream come true.

What was your favourite thing about the sport? I love the physical aspect but rugby allowed me to travel and meet some truly amazing people along the way. I've played in Dubai, Las Vegas, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Rome, Hong Kong, South Africa and where I was based during that time, New Zealand.

What was life in New Zealand like? It was amazing as I left a naive 19 year old from England and came back a completely different person. On the whole it's a nation of humble, calm and hard working people. It's had a huge influence on me and I will always be grateful for that. It's also gorgeous, I remember driving down a road at less than half of the speed limit. Just crawling along a main road holding up all the traffic because of the scenery.

As a professional althete you must've sustained some injury's along the way, any worth sharing? I've had two seperate plates inserted into my hands, plates in my shoulder, my left eye socket was entirely rebuilt and I've had some quite serious operations on my knee. I've broken my ribs, fingers, wrist, foot, coccyx, collarbone and nose. My neck needs constant physio and I've suffered 4 concussions.

Bike Messenger : Duncannon Street, London

 photo cycling-london-street-style-IMG_4536ssb.jpg

The final photograph of a long day of meeting, I had my camera in hand thinking how beautiful London looked in the sunshine. Although this messenger isn't the traditional epitome of 'style', I love the subtle contrasts in his outfit and equipment.

Blazer and Jeans :Boulevard Saint-Germain, Paris

 photo paris-menswear-street-style-IMG_8573a.jpg

This to me is the most accurate portrait of contemporary Parisian style. With a love of neutral tones, I rarely see the Paris fashion pack veer away from the uniform of black, grey and navy, while always trying to retain some smart appearance whether that be in the actual item of the cut. The white v-neck tee and and ripped black skinny jeans wouldn't be anything special on their own but a nautical double-breasted blazer and black leather chelsea boots makes up otherwise casual outfit look chic.

Matthew Zorpas: Somerset House, London

 photo matthew-zorpas-london-street-style-IMG_0489s.jpg

Mr Matthew Zorpas, the man behind The Gentleman Blogger, is never anything short of impeccably dressed. His use of core menswear essentials, such as the navy suit here, paired with intriguing details is what makes his looks so successful. For me, it's the reflection of emerald in his cocktail shoes with the knitted neck tie that bring a wink to an otherwise straight-forward look. To see the details, click below.

Stefano Pilati: Via Mercato, Milan

 photo Stefano-Pilati-milan-street-style-IMG_6701aslogo.jpg

Few men can pull off a double breasted white jacket with white trousers but Stefano Pilati, Head of Design at Zegna, does it effortlessly. I'm often asked who my 'style icon' is in interviews and rarely know how to respond. Although my true answer is a mixture of the regular gent on the street with some 1950s actors, Stefano Pilati is probably the only living man who comes close to iconic status to me.
